detroit has an intense creative friction that is difficult to capture.
hundreds of musicians, artists and scene goers with hundreds of
interwoven projects, concepts and sounds. it is the result of a city
that is in a constant cycle of decay and rebirth. a city that has
many opposing forces and cultures all colliding to make something
unique to itself. it is a nourishing garden for creative things to
happen. there is nothing set in stone about how it has to be done
here. no prevailing set of rules to guide us. we are free to make our
own culture in the way we want to make it. we are very fortunate to
have this gift and we would like to share it with you.
lowercase music was started to feature the scene of artists in
detroit that are doing things that we find interesting. over the last
three years we have discovered several artsits that do things outside
of the normal 'rock' scene. they play to audiences of friends that
are also making this kind of music. they make cd's and tapes of their
work. they would like for people to find out about them, but they are
going to keep doing it either way.
we feel that inclusion is the best policy and that there is strength
in numbers. we decided to bring these artists together for greater
exposure to each others' audiences and find the others around the
globe that are also doing similar things. there is a giant scene for
this music... it's just spread very thinly over the entire planet.
the technology is flattening the world enough these days that maybe
we can help bring it all together.
in the future we do intend to branch out even more. first to the
great lakes region of the u.s. and then to artists from the rest of
the world. right now we are focusing on our compilation, but we are
always interested in hearing new things. just remember that there are
only two of us that make the decisions here and we are slow. please
be patient and respectful of our process if you request us to listen.
here's to what happens next...
